Bobby McFerrin’s fluid singing and virtuosic conducting and performing has earn him much respect among elite jazz enthusiasts, and he even achieved mainstream fame with his Grammy winning hit “Don’t Worry, Be Happy”. Like McFerrin, Gino Sitson‘s great singing ability and genre-mashing composing has earn him both niche and mainstream success. Sitson, who was born and raised on Africa’s west coast in Cameroon, uses his voice and body percussion to blend together the various genres that he has grown to love from all his travels around the world. You can hear elements of jazz, classical, and blues all at once in most of the songs off his latest album Voistrings (April 14th via Buda Musique). The music is familiar, yet sounds new when mixed with the music of his West African upbringing.
